Research is clear that students who do not read proficiently by third grade are four times more likely to drop out of high school than proficient readers. Project NEXT and The Free Library of Philadelphia are teaming up to create BIG IMPACT and joining the fight to promote childhood literacy. Together we will be building and decorating Little Libraries so we can bring more books to families in our community. Representatives from the Read by 4th Campaign will be on hand to talk about the literacy crisis in the city and the different ways you can lend a voice and a hand to help. The event is taking place under the stars and in view of the Philadelphia skyline on the roof of the Library, it’s going to be a spectacular night of service and networking that you’re not going to want to miss. Cost is $13 to help cover supplies, $10 if you sign up by September 19th. Volunteers are also asked to bring their favorite children’s book to support the effort.
